Religious Holidays by Religion

These groups explain how each filter treats names and date rules. The full dates remain in the monthly calendar above.

Christian Holidays 2026 and 2027

The Christian filter includes selected fixed Gregorian dates and Western-calendar observances. Public-holiday status and denominational practice still depend on the church, country and community.

Orthodox Christian Calendar Dates 2026 and 2027

Orthodox Christianity is part of Christianity. These entries use a separate planning filter only where Pascha or a feast kept by churches using the Julian calendar differs from the Western-calendar date; Orthodox churches do not all use the same civil-date calendar.

Islamic Holidays 2026 and 2027

People checking Muslim holidays 2026 and 2027 can use the Islamic filter for Ramadan, Eid and other lunar observances. Confirm the practical date with the relevant local moon-sighting or government announcement.

Jewish Holidays 2026 and 2027

Jewish dates follow the Hebrew calendar and usually begin at sunset before the daytime date shown. Use the Jewish holidays 2026 and 2027 entries as date ranges when planning evening events, leave or school work.

Hindu Holidays 2026 and 2027

Hindu observances can use solar or lunisolar calculations. Treat the Hindu holidays 2026 and 2027 entries as planning dates, then check the applicable regional calendar, temple or community notice.

Buddhist Holidays 2026 and 2027

Buddhist dates may follow different lunar and tradition calendars. The Buddhist holidays 2026 and 2027 entries identify the represented observance, but a local Buddhist authority should confirm the community date.

Sikh Holidays 2026 and 2027

Sikh dates include fixed solar observances and dates drawn from tradition calendars. Use the Sikh holidays 2026 and 2027 entries for initial planning, then confirm community scheduling with a local gurdwara calendar.

Jain Holidays 2026 and 2027

Jain observance dates and festival periods can differ by tradition and local calendar. The Paryushana range on this page is explicitly scoped to selected Śvetāmbara calendars and must not be substituted for the Digambara Das Lakshana schedule.

Bahá’í Holy Days 2026 and 2027

Bahá’í holy days follow the Badí‘ calendar and run from sunset to sunset. The Gregorian date shown is the official calendar date, while observance begins at sunset on the preceding evening.

Date calculation guide

Why Religious Holiday Dates Change

Lunar Calendars and Moon Sightings

Islamic dates move through the civil year and some begin only after a local moon-sighting announcement. Hindu, Buddhist and other lunisolar calendars can also vary by regional calculation.

Holidays That Begin at Sunset

For an entry marked “Begins at sunset,” the first date in the displayed range is the opening evening, not an additional full daytime holiday. Use the complete range when planning an evening event or accommodation.

Regional and Religious Authority Differences

Communities may follow different calendars, denominations or local authorities. Check the relevant temple, mosque, synagogue, church, school or government calendar for the final local date.

Work and school planning

Religious Holidays vs Public Holidays

Public Holiday Status by Country

A religious observance becomes a public holiday only where national or regional law and an official calendar say so. Christmas, Eid, Diwali or another observance may close public offices in one country but remain a normal workday elsewhere.

School and Workplace Planning

For classes, exams, shifts and meetings, confirm the observance period first and then check the school or employer policy. Religious accommodation, annual leave and paid-holiday rules are separate questions.

Religious Holidays 2026 and 2027 FAQ

Do I need to use PTO for a religious holiday?

There is no worldwide rule. A listed religious holiday is not automatically paid leave. Check whether the date is a public holiday in your location, then review your employer policy and any applicable religious-accommodation process.

Why is Easter so early in 2027?

Western Easter is calculated from the Sunday after the ecclesiastical full moon following the March equinox. That calculation places Easter on March 28 in 2027. Orthodox Pascha uses a different calendar method and falls on May 2.

What is the biggest religious holiday in the world?

There is no single neutral ranking. Participation, religious importance and public-holiday status differ by faith and country. Use the calendar by religion and location rather than treating one observance as universally largest.
